WHY HAZWOPER TRAINING MATTERS PROTECTING WORKERS, STAYING COMPLIANT
HAZWOPER training isn’t just a regulation, it’s the foundation of a safer workplace. These hands-on courses prepare employees to recognize hazards, respond effectively, and stay ready year after year.
The EPA recently announced it will reconsider the 2023 Technology Transitions Rule, which impacts timelines and GWP limits for certain refrigerants. While these changes are significant for facilities using HFCs, they have limited impact on ammonia-based systems.
“Ammonia, with a GWP of nearly zero, is our first choice for all new systems,” explains Mike Sansom, PE, Engineering Manager at SIR. “Only when the customer requires a synthetic do we face the implications of these rule changes; and even then, the customer typically has someone on staff more well versed in the regulations of their chosen refrigerant than we need to be. It’s good to be aware of what’s happening on that side of the industry, but we don’t really concern ourselves with the HFC regulation changes more than that.”
